Microneurosurgery (Nerve Repair)

Injury to the peripheral sensory branches of the trigeminal nerve—which provide sensation to the face and oral structures—is a well-recognized complication of a wide range of oral and maxillofacial procedures. These include third molar (wisdom tooth) removal, endodontic (root canal) therapy, dental implant placement, facial trauma, and other oral and facial surgical interventions.

When diagnosed and treated in a timely manner, selected nerve injuries of the maxillofacial region can be successfully repaired using advanced microneurosurgical techniques. Dr. Bagheri has completed extensive fellowship training in microsurgery and maxillofacial reconstruction, working closely with microvascular surgeons. He is formally certified in microsurgery through Emory University’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Bagheri is internationally recognized for his expertise in microneurosurgical repair of trigeminal nerve injuries. He is among a small number of surgeons worldwide who perform these complex nerve repairs with regularity. His clinical experience is complemented by a strong academic presence, including peer-reviewed publications and invited lectures on microneurosurgical nerve repair in the maxillofacial region at national and international forums.

Lingual nerve injuries, typically presenting as numbness or altered sensation of the tongue

Inferior alveolar nerve injuries, often resulting in numbness of the lower lip, chin, and gums

Mental nerve injuries, usually presenting as numbness of the lower lip and chin.
